You’ve dipped your toe into flash fiction, and now you’re ready to dive deeper.

Maybe you have a few story starts, or maybe you’ve just written your very first piece. Either way, you know there’s something about flash that lights you up. Now you’re ready to try more styles, revise, and share your work with others.

That’s where Start Small comes in.

In this six-week flash fiction workshop, you’ll join a small group of fellow writers to generate new work, develop your technique and find your writing voice.

Start Small Includes:

  • 6 Weeks of live instruction on Zoom.

  • Craft lessons, published Flash examples, and weekly writing prompts.

  • Small class for lively discussion and feedback.

  • Live workshop discussion of your stories. Receive supportive, specific feedback from the instructor and fellow students.

  • Writer-first workshopping: ask questions and redirect the conversation to get the most out of the feedback on your stories.

  • Recordings of classes and pdfs of course materials to keep forever.

Meet your Instructor

Hi, I’m Kayleigh, and I love Flash Fiction.

Over the last decade I’ve taught hundreds of writing students in college, community education, and the prestigious Grub Street Writing Center in Boston.

Why Flash Fiction?

Flash Fiction is one of my favorite topics to teach because it’s accessible to writers of all ages and backgrounds, and lends itself to lively classes with lots of laughter and writerly breakthroughs.

Whereas a traditional fiction workshop might help a student revise a few chapters of their novel, or complete another draft of a full length short story, in a flash workshop you can write a new story every week, with time left to revise and even submit for publication.

My flash students have written their first stories, gotten their first creative writing publications, and broken free of writers block after years of struggling with novels and memoirs. It’s truly life changing.
